ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW H.U.D.A. is a private community-based health care clinic for the Uninsured and for the retired population. It does not charge for its services. Donations are accepted. It is centrally functioning. It is run by a small working staff, but it is accomplished through an active working board of directors and a pool of volunteers who service all aspects of the operation. MISSION : The Huda Clinic is a faith-based initiative founded on the Islamic principles of kindness philanthropy. Our mission is to promote health and wellness by providing quality free health care, pharmaceuticals, and preventative services to the uninsured. We recognize health care as a basic right and nondiscriminatory. VISION: Our Vision is to create a healthy community through health awareness and decrease strain of patients in hospitals emergency room. Scope Of Services: An annual health fair; Job and Health Counseling and referral; Free health clinic; Out patient health Assessments, Blood pressure screening, Diabetic screening, General eye Exam, Health promotion, preventive and education Health Resource and social work services Lab Services History: Huda Clinic was first opened in May of 2004 to serve the uninsured population of the Greater Detroit area. Health Unit on Davison Avenue is an acronym for (HUDA). The clinic was opened on initial funds gathered by the Muslim community of Detroit area. The Huda Clinic is a non-profit organization run by physicians, medical students, nurses, social workers, & other professionals who are donating their time to better the health of our community. Location: The service area, defined by Joy Road to the south, Puritan to the north, 1-75 to the east and Livernois to the west, will be revitalized in phases. Initial activities are planned for Phase I Target Area, which is defined as Monterey, Richton, Cortland, and Highland Streets between Linwood and the Lodge Expressway. Approximately 70% of the households in this area are at or below the Federal poverty line. Purpose: We believe free health services are an essential part of the health delivery system. By providing continuing care to clients, these services minimize the effects of illness or disability. Accomplishments: Initially Clinic was opened fortnightly on Saturday for one full year. All medical and administrative services were provided to the above mentioned population exclusively free and the response was tremendous so, the Board Directors decided to open clinic on every Saturday. All staff are serving voluntary. Total numbers of patients are currently seeing 70-80 on every Saturday. Hours of operation are 10-2.00pm for patients. Goals: To assist patients by using all restorative methods, tools, and procedures to return to their optimal level of function. To expand this health care project for the needy population by the end of 2007. Statistics: The community for which the Huda Clinic serves is 80% African American, 20% being white and Immigrant population, or non-white other than African-American. The area for which we serve has an unemployment rate of 16%. The median income for this area is $27,000 and has a poverty rate of 28%. The top three health conditions plaguing this community are: 1. Heart disease 2. Cancer 3. Diabetes 4. Hypertension 5. Chronic illnesses The highest age group in our area is 18-44 years of age (which makes up 37% of our immediate area. There are currently (14) CHC or HCH clinics in Detroit, yet only three are within 20 miles of our area. This distance alone creates a hardship for the area which The Huda Clinic serves. Statement of Need: The health consequences have profound implications for our medical system and economy and the social consequences can be serious. The U.S. Surgeon General, the Centers of Disease Control and the Institute of Medicine are urging immediate attention to this public health issue. In order to fulfill the health centers' mission of improving the health status of underserved populations, health center must continue to survive and thrive through health care reforms, marketplace changes and advances in clinical care. We measure the effectiveness and quality of our services and continuously evolve our programs to achieve the greatest impact. We planned to expand the project of HUDA Clinic both in terms of Facility and its Services. Description of Need: Hiring of staff that will be included Nurse, Medical Assistant, Administrator and an Accountant. Development of Diagnostic Laboratory Medicines Stock Operative and Equipment funding Planning of collecting and analyzing data and start of research projects on diseases Educational /Rehabilitation classes for HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, Smoking etc, Enlarge the current facility area
